Castello di Stenico

Castello di Stenico is a historic military site located in Comano Terme. This structure bears witness to the conflicts that involved Val Rendena, particularly during World War I, when the valley lay on the front line between Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Between 1915 and 1918, Val Rendena was the scene of fierce fighting on the Adamello and Presanella peaks, at altitudes exceeding 3,000 meters. The remains of trenches, bunkers and barracks scattered across the surrounding mountains tell the dramatic story of the "White War" — fought among snow and ice at extreme altitudes. Today these sites serve as memorial trails attracting military history enthusiasts from across Europe.
