Description
The Pilgrim Healer in the Village of Massimeno
The Church of San Rocco in Massimeno is dedicated to the French pilgrim saint, protector against plague and contagious diseases. The presence of a church named after Saint Roch in this small Val Rendena village reflects the widespread devotion to this saint in Alpine communities, where epidemics were a constant threat.
Massimeno, the smallest municipality in the valley, proudly guards its sacred buildings, expressions of a deep faith handed down through generations. The church forms part of the religious heritage of Val Rendena, a land evangelised by Saint Vigilius and enriched by the art of the Baschenis, whose frescoes adorn numerous churches in the area.
