The Ancient Pieve, Mother of All Churches of Bleggio

The Pieve di Santa Croce del Bleggio in Comano Terme is one of the most important and ancient religious buildings in the Giudicarie. In the medieval ecclesiastical structure, pievi (parish churches) were mother churches on which all chapels and minor churches in a vast territory depended. The Pieve di Santa Croce played this fundamental role for the entire Bleggio area.

The building, with its solemn architecture telling centuries of religious history, is a monument to the Christian faith in these valleys, brought by Saint Vigilius in the 4th century. The pieve may preserve decorative and artistic elements of great value, fitting into the tradition of Trentino churches enriched by the pictorial cycles of the Baschenis and other Renaissance workshops.
