San Martino, the Knight Saint of Villa Rendena

The Church of San Martino in Villa Rendena is dedicated to the famous bishop saint of Tours, the Roman knight who shared his cloak with a freezing beggar, becoming one of the most beloved saints in all Christendom. The cult of Saint Martin is extremely widespread in the Trentino valleys, where numerous churches and chapels bear his name.

Villa Rendena, a village in lower Val Rendena, holds in the church of San Martino an important religious landmark for the community. The valley, a land of ancient evangelisation by Saint Vigilius in the 4th century, preserves a sacred heritage of great value, adorned over the centuries by the frescoes of the Baschenis painters, itinerant Bergamo artists who decorated numerous local churches.
